 
Sheriff Greg Baloun was
elected Dickinson County Sheriff in 1992 and subsequently took office
on January 1, 1993. Baloun was re-elected in 1996, 2000 and again in
2004. Prior to being elected Sheriff, Baloun spent nine years with the
Lake Park Police Department, eight of those years as the Chief of Police.Sheriff Baloun serves
as D.A.R.E. instructor, and teaches students at all four school
districts in Dickinson County. In 2007, Sheriff Baloun graduated from
the FBI North Central Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar
(LEEDS).

Chief Deputy Peterson joined
the Sheriff’s Office in 2001. He was promoted to the position of Chief
Deputy in 2003. Prior to joining the Sheriff’s Office, Peterson was a
patrolman with the Arnolds Park Police Department. Currently, Peterson assists in
overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Peterson
received his ILEA intermediate certificate in 1993. He also possesses
a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Minnesota State
University at Mankato and an Associate of Science Degree in Criminal
Justice from Iowa Lakes Community College. He has also attended other
continuing education programs that assist him in law enforcement
administration. In 2007, Chief Deputy Peterson graduated from the FBI
North Central Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar (LEEDS).
In his free time, Peterson enjoys spending time with
his family, sports, and hunting.

Lieutenant Petersen
joined the Sheriff's Office in June of 2001 following four years with
the Milford Police Department and two years with the Lake Park Police
Department. Lieutenant Petersen graduated from the Iowa Law
Enforcement Academy in 1996 after attending Iowa Lakes Community
College's Criminal Justice Program.
Lieutenant Petersen is
a certified ILEA firearms instructor, rifle instructor, low light instructor, certified rifle
sharpshooter and a member of the MART team.
In October of 2006,
Deputy Petersen was promoted to the Lieutenant's position within the
Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Gude has worked
for the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office since 1995. Prior to working
for Dickinson County, Deputy Gude was a patrolman for the Iowa Falls
and Storm Lake Police Departments. Prior to his law enforcement
career, Deputy Gude spent eight years with the United States Navy,
serving as an air traffic controller.
While at the Iowa Law
Enforcement Academy in 1989, Deputy Gude was elected President of the
113th basic class, presented the McCartney Award for "most
conscientious performance," a member of the 300-point club and still
holds a record for physical performance. During his time with the Iowa
Falls and Storm Lake Police Departments, then patrolman Gude received
a total of four commendations for service above and beyond the call of
duty.
Deputy Gude has been a
certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) since 1999 and is also
qualified to handle clandestine drug manufacturing laboratories.

Deputy Matt Grimmius
joined the Sheriff's Office in July of 2007. Prior to that he was a
patrolman for the Lake Park Police Department. He graduated from the
Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2006 and received the Academic
Award. Before attending the academy, Deputy Grimmius received his
Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Western Iowa Tech
in Sioux City.
In his spare time,
Grimmius enjoys hunting, fishing, exercise, and sports.

Deputy Josh
Roberts joined the Sheriff’s Office in December of 2006. Deputy
Roberts graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2003 while
working for the Spirit Lake Police Department. Prior to his law
enforcement career Deputy Roberts spent ten years in the Military.
Deputy Roberts has served two tours in Iraq, Operation Desert Shield
with the U.S. Navy and Operation Iraqi Freedom with the U.S. Army.
During his off duty hours Deputy Roberts enjoys spending time with his
wife and two daughters.

Deputy Ed Lock joined
the Sheriff’s Office in December, 2005. Deputy Lock became a certified
police officer in 1992 while working for the Lake Park Police
Department. In 1993, Deputy Lock was hired by the Emmetsburg Police
Department and then hired by the Okoboji Police Department in 2001.
Deputy Lock is married and has three daughters and enjoys many outside
activities including coaching his daughter’s softball team. Deputy
Lock is looking forward to his career with the Dickinson County
Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Ondler has
served the Sheriff's Office since 1985. Previously he was a patrolman
with the Spirit Lake Police Department.
In 2004, Deputy Ondler
was presented with a Meritorious Achievement Award from the West
Central Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force. Deputy Ondler was
one of fifteen law enforcement officials to be honored with such an
award for their exemplary service in the successful investigation and
prosecution of "OPERATION OINO". Click here for more information on
