Attempted suicide at Dickinson County Jail

An attempted suicide of an inmate occured at the Dickinson County Jail Monday evening. Just before 7 p.m., a jailer discovered David Strang, age 21, from Detroit, Michigan, unresponsive in his cell.
Life-saving measures were performed by jail staff, responding police officers and EMS personnel. Strang was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare then lifeflighted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. No update on his condition is currently available. Strang was awaiting trial and being held on a $10,000 bond for 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse.
An investigation is being conducted by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Spirit Lake First Responders and the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
