Man stranded on Big Spirit in dense fog
DCSO received a call from a stranded fisherman March 13 at approximately 7:45 pm. A local man had walked out onto Big Spirit Lake to fish walking from the Marble Beach campground area. The man became disoriented in the dense fog and was unable to find his way off the lake. Deputies went to the area and using their vehicle siren, tried to give the man a signal to follow. The man was unable follow the signal given.
The man's location was known by the Dickinson County Communications Center by the Cellular 911 locator. This went on for about an hour. The man was going in circles as shown by the locator.
Another fisherman, Ceasar Larson, was leaving the lake when the Deputies were attempting to give the signal to the disoriented fisherman. Larson, of Amboy MN, was driving a SnoBear tracked vehicle. Larson and his two daughters, Rachel (10) and Kate(8), took a Sheriff's Deputy out onto the ice in the SnoBear and drove to the man's location. He was taken back to Marble Beach area with no injures.
